Augustus is an absolutely beautiful 15.2 hand bay gelding with all the shape and bone you could ask for. At his young age of just 5 years old, his future is yours to mold anyway you please! Wether it be to continue saddling him up at 5 every morning and heading out to put a long days work in or to put him in the arena to excel in roping, barrels, or even under english tack, Augustus meets you a willing attitude and a determined demeanor to get the job done and get it done right. With his bloodlines going back to many different disciplines, the possibilities are endless for this guy!
To say I know a ton about Augustus history would be an understatement! He was born and raised right here in deep East Texas about 13 miles from my house to a lifelong family friend of mine and then was sold as a two year old to another friend of mine that only lives about 6 miles from me! The old saying “just a hop, skip, & a jump away” is very accurate in this case! This sweet family continued to let him grow and then sent him to his first trainer as a long two year old. Over the 3 to 4 months that he spent at the trainer, he picked up very quickly and was an absolute saint from day one! He never once tried any funny business and was always ready and willing to learn. After the ground work and teaching him the fundamentals, they were already able to take him out to pasture to push cows up, cross creeks, ride down the dirt roads, ride by the train and by the highway. Nothing phases him in the least bit…. he is like riding an old seasoned horse that has seen the world 100 times over. When he went back home he was instantly being rode by their two little boys all over the pasture, around the yard, you name it. It is not everyday that you throw 2 little bitty boys on a three year old colt and not have a worry in the world, but Augustus is just THAT good! The family continued riding him for another year until they just didn’t have the time anymore. Between both boys being in school now and them both spending their evenings and weekends at the ball field, Augustus was sitting in the pasture. I was asked to sell Augustus for them and I gladly took the opportunity because he is such an amazing gelding….. so amazing that I didn’t even get a chance to make a full post/ad before he was sold to a friend of mine in South Dakota where he has been since then! As soon as Augustus stepped foot in South Dakota, he has made lasting impressions on everyone he has came in contact with. This gelding is one that you can turn out for weeks at a time and he is the same exact trusty mount that he was the day you stepped off of him. He doesn’t even know what the term fresh is and dang sure hasn’t ever been it! Step to him and lope him straight out of his tracks on a loose rein! Augustus is definitely not just a one trick pony either, he has been used for various jobs around the ranch. His day to day job consist of tending to about 300 cows on about 6,000 acres, so he has definitely seen some big country! We have also used him to halter break colts. His calm and steady demeanor makes him absolutely perfect for the job! He will watch a cow and put you in the hole to get a perfect shot and will also hold a rope nice and tight. He will drag calves back to the barn in a sled or right on top of him, either way he will get them there safe and sound. He has been rode through fast moving rivers to slow running creeks and has climbed up steep embankments and descended strong and steady down the other side. He has drug calves to the fire and drove cattle over the vast Great Plains of the Dakotas. Ride him in anything from a bit, to a halter, to a war bridle…. He will get the job done and get it done right!
Augustus is absolutely phenomenal under saddle and is equally as good on the ground! From kids running around screaming and playing, to crawling under his legs and sliding off his rear…His manners are top tier! He baths, clips, ties, loads and unloads like a well oiled machine! Augustus also has the patience of pre-k school teacher and is suitable for absolutely anyone to ride! He will pack the kids, wife, grandkids, to the grandma… he is the perfect partner for any and everybody which is an unheard of quality in a 5 year old! There truly is not enough good things that I can say about this gelding and anyone would be lucky to add him to their string!
